Virgin Atlantic was founded by Sir Richard Branson more than 30 years ago, after he decided the UK aviation industry needed shaking up. He wanted to make air travel exciting, stylish and enjoyable again. So Virgin Atlantic was airborne on 22nd June 1984, with the first flight from London Gatwick to Newark in the US.

Since then, Virgin Atlantic has been the longhaul airline to fall in love with. More than five million people who want to depart the everyday, and fly the amazing way, travel with them every year to some of the best destinations around the world – North America, South America, Africa, and Asia.

Pioneering is at the heart of Virgin Atlantic. The airline is always innovating, with the customer at the heart of everything they do. It was the first airline to introduce Premium and a bar in every Upper Class cabin, seatback TVs and a fully flatbed seat. It was even the first to fly a commercial aircraft using only biofuels.

Step onboard and discover warm, welcoming service, award-winning entertainment, thoughtful design touches and stylish comfort for the best experience in the sky, no matter what cabin you fly.

Alongside our joint venture partner Delta Air Lines, we operate a leading transatlantic network - offering up to 38 flights per day between the UK and US with onward connections to over 200 US and international cities.

Virgin 4

In 2019, we’ll take delivery of our first Airbus A350-1000 aircraft—helping to transform our fleet into one of the quietest and most fuel efficient in the sky.

Across our fleet, customers can choose from three ways to fly in Economy: Economy Light, Classic and Delight. If they’re travelling in Premium, they can speed through the airport with Premium check in and priority boarding. Then settle into a spacious leather seat to enjoy a chilled glass of welcome bubbly. Upper Class customers can enjoy cocktails in the Clubhouse. In the air they can relax into their suite as they are served imaginatively designed dishes and fine wines, before stretching out in their fully flat bed.

And whichever cabin they travel in, they’ll be able to enjoy over 300 hours of fantastic inflight entertainment and stay connected to the world below with WiFi*.
