Better Bathrooms ' the bedroom enterprise that has become a household name24 Sep 2015
With little knowledge of ecommerce, Colin Stevens’ entrepreneurial journey started from humble beginnings. Following his professional golfing dream in becoming the next Nick Faldo, Stevens began dabbling in online sales at just 17, to help fund this ambitious career path. In the four years that followed, and upon realising he wasn’t going to beat the likes of Tiger Woods, Stevens turned his attention to making money.
"Originally, North-West based, today Better Bathrooms boast the largest bathroom showrooms across the UK"
At just 21, the British entrepreneur started selling taps on eBay from his bedroom in Wigan. After five very successful days of offering items at such a fantastic margin it lead to an expansion into other bathroom fixtures and fittings; and in 2001 www.betterbathrooms.com was born, a domain that would soon become the brand.
In leading the internet revolution within an industry that traditionally relied on high street footfall, this enabled Colin to take market share from competitor failings. Little overhead costs allowed Better Bathrooms to offer ‘better’ value, a factor, which remains at the heart of operations even today. By re-investing profits back into the business helped Better Bathrooms achieve phenomenal growth and enabled Colin to build a multi-channel approach to the business and invest in physical showrooms.
Originally, North-West based, today Better Bathrooms boast the largest bathroom showrooms across the UK, displaying thousands of products and offering internet prices in-store. Customers can buy from Better Bathrooms, online, over the phone or in one of their showrooms and trade counters in Birmingham (Dec 2015), Cardiff, Didcot, Edinburgh, Manchester, Leicester, Leigh, Romford, Slough, Warrington, Wigan, and York.
Colin Stevens CEO and Founder of www.BetterBathrooms.com said; “It’s fantastic news to be shortlisted in the Growth Business of the Year and in the Employer of the Year categories. I strive to create a culture of innovation, giving each employee a sense of ownership on the business and rewarding and promoting from within. This helps mould talent and nurture progression and it’s great to see staff progress and grow with the company. I’d have it no other way. I believe in my team and the nominations are a team effort”.
Now at just 34 years of age, Colin has transformed a money making venture into a household name through innovation and originality, with goals to open 30 nationwide showrooms, employ 500 people, break in to the European markets and achieve an annual turnover of £100M+. All this aids towards Colin’s core mission in Better Bathrooms becoming the UK’s number one preferred choice in bathroom retail and adhering to their motto Better Prices…Better Service…Better Bathrooms.
