Apetito - The Orange Innovation Award 2012 winner05 Sep 2013
Leading food company apetito has been providing delicious, nutritious food to the elderly and vulnerable for over 50 years and more recently has started to work with sister company, Wiltshire Farm Foods, to deliver meals directly to the public too. They were awarded the Orange Innovation Award at the 2012 National Business Awards for their CarteChoix initiative, a pioneering restaurant-inspired plated meal system for hospitals.
CarteChoix was developed by apetito to help hospitals reduce costs and food waste by satisfying patient demand for quality, flexibility and choice. Offering complete meals served on a warm china plate with a cook time of just 5-7 minutes, the range is particularly suitable for wards with a high patient turnaround, such as maternity and admissions, but is also being successfully implemented across other acute settings, where an a la carte offering for patients has been welcomed by the industry.
Launched in January 2012, the new product range has not only driven sales and growth for apetito, but helped hospitals achieve cost saving and efficiency targets, whilst providing patients with nutritious meals. It was a new idea that delivered commercial success, whilst also engaging customers and generating operational effectiveness.
Ian Stone, Sales, Marketing and Business Development Director at apetito said: “CarteChoix is just one example of our ongoing efforts to create products that provide nutritious, safe and appetising food, on time, to the elderly and infirm. It’s an innovative idea that has been a great success for our core customers and has delivered for us in a commercial sense.
“Winning a National Business Award has helped us to grow awareness and reach, to secure new business and confirm the quality of our products. As innovation is ingrained in the way we operate, we’re incredibly proud to have this recognised by such a prestigious award.”
Judges for the National Business Awards added:”Apetito is innovating in a practical and determined way within a highly cost conscious market - and with an unmitigated focus on providing a quality service to patients.”
